Cover to Cover is a monthly program featuring the most influential authors on subjects of national and international importance.

Offered as a benefit to all current WACA Member Councils, Cover to Cover conference calls are opportunities for Council leaders, members, and supporters to engage with esteemed authors on critical issues. Cover to Cover authors often welcome invitations to speak at Councils. In short, the WACA National Office covers a topic with an expert so that Councils may discover a speaker and cover the topic in even greater depth in their own communities, spearheading a national conversation.

March's Cover to Cover will feature New York Times bestselling author Clyde Prestowitz on his new book Japan Restored: How Japan Can Reinvent Itself and Why This Is Important for America and the World. Date/Time TBD. WACA President and CEO Bill Clifford will moderate the call.

He has played key roles in achieving congressional passage of NAFTA and in shaping the final content of the Uruguay Round, as well as providing the intellectual basis for current U.S. trade policies toward Japan, China, and Korea.

UNH Manchester, World Affairs Council of NH Partner for Lecture Series, Global Tipping Points: Insecure World

Manchester, NH — The University of New Hampshire at Manchester and The World Affairs Council of New Hampshire (WACNH) have partnered to offer Global Tipping Points: Insecure World, a three-part series on current world affairs.

The series begins on Tuesday, March 1 at 6 p.m. with Iphigenia Kanara, Greece’s Consul General based in Boston. Kanara’s talk, “Global Exodus: What Comes Next for the World’s Growing Number of Refugees,” will address the global refugee crisis caused by war and persecution and the balance between security and human rights in the European Union’s response.

On Tuesday, April 12 Juliette Kayyem, former Assistant Secretary for Intergovernmental Affairs at the Department of Homeland Security under President Obama, will present, “An Unclassified Guide to Protecting Our Homeland and Your Home.” Kayyem will elaborate on her simple message and plan for keeping Americans safe: security begins at home.

The final event in the series will take place on Tuesday, May 3. Geneive Abdo, a fellow at the Brookings Institution researching Iran and political Islam, will present “A House Divided: Islam in Today’s Middle East”. She will explore how an ancient religious schism is fueling modern conflict between Sunni and Shia powers, fracturing the region.This program was made possible, in part, with support from New Hampshire Humanities, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Humanities

Global Tipping Points: Insecure World is coordinated by the World Affairs Council of NH in partnership with UNH Manchester’s History, Humanities and Politics & Society programs. and UNH Manchester's history, humanities and politics and society programs.

All of the events will be held at the University of New Hampshire at Manchester, 88 Commercial street, on the second floor in room 201. 11 High School Teams to Compete in 2nd Annual Academic WorldQuest Competition at SNHU on March 5

Sponsorship Opportunities Still Available!

Nearly 50 local high school students will compete in the Council's 2nd annual Academic WorldQuest competition on Saturday, March 5 at the SNHU Hospitality Center. The public is invited to attend and cheer on their favorite team, hear from keynote speaker Deepika Kurup or play along! Details here.

Academic WorldQuest, WACNH's newest education program, is a quiz-style, team competition testing high school students' knowledge of international affairs, geography, history and culture. Teams compete by answering 10 rounds of multiple choice questions on critical global issues and the winning team will represent NH in Washington, D.C. in April at the national competition.

Also at this year's state competition, our keynote speaker, Deepika Kurup will tell the inspiring story of how she working to make the world a better place! Deepika, a former student at Nashua High School and current student at Harvard University, developed a simple and inexpensive water purification technique using solar energy. For her invention, she was awarded first prize at the 2012 Discovery Education 3M Young Scientist Challenge. In January 2015, Deepika was named as one of Forbes' 30 under 30 in Energy.

The 11th season of the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire's flagship speaker series, Global Tipping Points, will kick-off on Tuesday, March 1 at UNH Manchester. The series includes expert insight into critical international issues and opportunity for discussion that goes beyond the headlines. Meet Council Intern Kristine Adams

The Council welcomes Kristine Adams, a Senior at Saint Anselm College and Alton native, as an intern for the spring semester. Kristine is an international relations and Spanish double major, politics minor. She is also a NH Institute of Politics Ambassador and resident assistant. Kristine has studied abroad in Argentina and served as a research assistant to a Saint Anselm professor during a trip to Bosnia.

Associate Director Tim Horgan Serves as Speaker at National Global Ties U.S. Meeting

Tim Horgan, Associate Director of the Council, was recently

featured as an expert speaker at the national meeting of Global Ties U.S. The annual meeting, held in Washington, D.C, last month, is the premier gathering of organizations, U.S. government agencies and leaders in the international exchange field. Tim was included in a panel of experts providing professional development for attendees on the topic of virtual reality, sharing his experiences developing digital exchange programs online for participants of the U.S. State Department's International Visitor Leadership Program.

Academic WorldQuest Registration Open until February 1 Winning Team Will Travel to Washington DC to Represent NH!

Don't miss out on this opportunity to learn more about the world, participate in a fun, low-pressure competition, and possibly win a trip to Washington D.C. to represent New Hampshire in the National Academic WorldQuest competition!

Academic WorldQuest, WACNH's newest education program, is a quiz-style, team competition testing high school students' knowledge of international affairs, geography, history and culture. Teams compete by answering 10 rounds of multiple choice questions on critical global issues. A study guide is provided with detailed resources on each of the categories to help students and the team adviser (usually a teacher) to prepare for the competition. Questions for the competition are drawn from the resources in the study guide. The statewide competition will be held at SNHU on Saturday, March 5 at 10 AM.

Also at this year's competition, our keynote speaker, Deepika Kurup will tell the inspiring story of how she working to make the world a better place! Seth Goldman, Diplomacy Begins Here Manchester speaker, to be named 2016 Citizen Diplomat of the Year by Global Ties U.S.

In recognition of his commitment to fostering global well-being, Global Ties U.S. will present him with the award as part of the 2016 National Meeting in Washington, DC on January 29.

Seth Goldman co-founded Honest Tea out of his home in 1998 with Barry Nalebuff of the Yale School of Management, and from the beginning they were committed to social responsibility, including sourcing ingredients from organic farms and reinvesting in those communities.

Today, Honest Tea is the nation's top selling organic bottled tea, and is carried in more than 100,000 outlets. In recognition of his efforts to use and promote business practices that foster social and economic development across the world, Global Ties U.S. will honor Seth Goldman with the 2016 Citizen Diplomat Award at the network's National Meeting. Goldman served as the keynote speaker of the Council's Diplomacy Begins Here Summit in Manchester last August.

Thomas W. Lippman was a featured speaker at WACA's 2015 National Conference. An adjunct scholar at the Middle East Institute, he specializes in Saudi Arabian affairs, U.S.-Saudi relations, and relations between the West and Islam. Lippman was stationed in the Middle East as a journalist during Sadat's presidency and lived in Egypt in the aftermath of the October War. He's the author of several previous books on the Middle East. (bio)

In 11 dramatic years, Anwar Sadat changed history--not just that of Egypt, or of the Middle East, but of the entire world. As the architect of the 1973 war against Israel, he gained the support of other Arab nations and inspired the oil embargo. Following the war, however, he forever ended Arab aspirations of unity by making peace with Israel. Sadat gave the West a crucial Cold War victory by jettisoning Egypt's alliance with the Soviet Union. His historic tenure resonates in the 21st century as the Islamic activists--whom he encouraged but who later opposed his turn toward Israel and ultimately played a role in his assassination--continue to foster activism, including the Muslim Brotherhood, today.

What a year of change 2015 has been for the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire! From hosting our first ever full day summit in August, to reaching new milestones in our international visitor leadership program, it seems just like yesterday when we were planning for our exciting lineup of spring events, like the forum with the Editor of Foreign Policy magazine.

As we say goodbye to our 61^st year of operation, we are looking ahead to many more great years to come. The Council is working hard to create unique and interesting programs to give you insight and information about foreign affairs.

Without a doubt, our Diplomacy Begins Here Summit, held in August, was a shining moment for the Council. Over 225 people attended events to learn about how New England is connected to the world and how to become more involved in and benefit from international exchange programs. The CEO of Honest Tea, Seth Goldman, speaking on how his business builds goodwill for the US through their international dealings, was a highlight of the summit.

With your help, we can provide more opportunities for you and others to engage with the world:
