2026 Global Citizen of the Year ![]() |
The World Affairs Council of New Hampshire proudly presents Common Man for Ukraine and NH4Ukraine.org with its prestigious Global Citizen of the Year award in recognition of their important efforts to support the people of Ukraine during difficult times. By bringing together communities within New Hampshire and around the country, these two organizations have activated millions of dollars in support and aid, which has been distributed to those most in need. Both of these home grown organizations have accomplished an enormous amount, while also introducing the world to New Hampshire.
Please join this important global community to celebrate the work of these amazing organizations on May 14 at the WACNH Global Forum Signature Fundraiser. In addition to recognizing the important accomplishments these community groups have achieved, you will have the opportunity to engage in a community conversation with former Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs, Jake Sullivan. About Common Man for Ukraine
Common Man for Ukraine -
Common Man for Ukraine’s co-founders turned small-town New Hampshire heart into global impact, refusing to stand idly by after the February 2022 invasion.
Without a clear path to help Ukraine’s children, the four volunteers (Steve Rand, Susan Mathison, Alex Ray, and Lisa Mure) reached out and built one.
Inspired by our Plymouth Rotary Foundation's commitment to Service Above Self, the all-volunteer team efficiently and effectively partners with fellow Rotarians on the ground to deliver impactful relief programs for Ukraine's most vulnerable children.
They achieve this great mission by providing food and trauma counseling services to children and families devastated by this war. So far, they have donated over 4 million pounds of food, 10,000+ sleeping bags, hundreds of power generators for homes, and provided opportunities for over 1,100 Ukrainian children to attend a 3-week trauma informed counseling retreat free of charge.
Having just completed their 15th humanitarian trip to Ukraine, the team looks forward to delivering more aid to the people most in need, while looking forward to a day where this effort is no longer needed and the war comes to a close.
About NH4Ukraine.org
NH4Ukraine.org -
Founded in March of 2022, NH4Ukraine.org brings together communities in support of providing humanitarian aid to frontline communities in Ukraine. This fully volunteer led organization was created by Bedford, NH residents Brian Nolen and John Fitzgerald as scenes of destruction were broadcast around the world from Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February of 2022.
Now based in Kharkiv, Ukraine, the team routinely delivers lifesaving aid to those most in need (averaging 80 aid packages per delivery), despite ongoing attacks in the area. Each delivery includes shelf stable foods, cleaning supplies, and hygiene products, which are desperately needed. When needed, they will even deliver dog and cat food to pet owners in need. Their model is particularly effective, as they hand deliver the packages to these towns, ensuring the people who need it the most actually receive this aid.
Now on their most recent, and longest, aid mission (#8) the team has been on the ground for almost a full year. They have helped thousands of people throughout the country and will continue this necessary work until it is no longer needed.
