About the Speaker

Michelle Kayser is a career Foreign Service Officer with 12 years of experience in a number of assignments and regions within the U.S. Department of State. Michelle is currently serving as the Diplomat-In-Residence for the New England region. She is responsible for recruiting the best and brightest candidates from diverse backgrounds within Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont  for U.S. Department of State career and student program opportunities. She began her assignment in June 2022.

Michelle previously served as the Political Unit Chief and the Equal Employment Officer at the U.S. Embassy in Bern, Switzerland from June 2019 until May 2022. Previously, she served as the European Union Desk Officer in the Office of the European Union and Regional Affairs at the Department of State. Prior to this, she served as a Staff Assistant in the Executive Secretariat of the Department of State. Her other overseas assignments included a tour as the Environment, Science, Technology and Health Officer and Consular Officer in Buenos Aires, Argentina and as General Services Officer and Post Security Officer in Bangui, Central African Republic.

Michelle has a Master’s in Public and International Affairs from Princeton University and a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from St. Michael’s College in Colchester, Vermont. Mrs. Kayser is a native of Vermont and is married with a newborn.
