Join the World Affairs Council with the NH Fulbright Association, with our speakers Bruno D'Britto, the Executive Director of the NH Brazilian Council and Jean Hakuzimana, the Founder and Director of NH SONGA for an event on discussing U.S immigration policy, the traditional path for immigration, and real-life experiences of immigrating to the States.

About the Speakers

Bruno D'Britto is an immigrant originally from Brazil, an immigration attorney, and Executive Director of the NH Brazilian Council. Attorney D'Britto has over 10 years of experience working with Immigration Law helping families to stay together. Attorney D'Britto is also an Advisor to the NH Judicial Branch and works with various Government Agencies such as the Dept. of Safety, DMV, U.S. Dept. of Labor, among other agencies to better serve the community.

Jean Hakuzimana is an experienced professional with over 12 years of expertise in community development strategy design, communication, advocacy, and media. He is the dedicated founder and Director of #NHSONGA (NH Moves) and serves as a deputy editor at Amjambo Africa, a prominent newspaper covering a diverse range of news related to immigrants and host communities in Maine. In addition to his editorial responsibilities, Jean is also the host of the Amjambo Time podcast at WMPG, a community radio station affiliated with the University of Southern Maine. Through this platform, he showcases the voices of new Mainers and engages in discussions on various topics of interest and relevance to them.

Jean earned his degree in community development policy and practice from the prestigious Carsey School of Public Policy at the University of New Hampshire. He also holds an undergraduate degree in journalism from the University of Rwanda. Throughout his career, Jean has collaborated with esteemed organizations such as the United Nations, European Union funded programs, regional organizations, diplomatic missions, governmental agencies, and non-profit entities in both Africa and the USA. His work has consistently focused on critical issues including refugee resettlement, social determinants of health, environment, agriculture, biodiversity, governance, and inclusive finance.

Driven by a deep passion for social justice and positive change, Jean leverages his communication, journalism, and advocacy skills to amplify the voices and stories of marginalized and underrepresented communities. His unwavering commitment to making a difference has solidified his reputation as a dedicated advocate for a more inclusive and equitable society.
