Greece’s Consul General in Boston, Iphigenia Kanara, will address the global refugee crisis caused by war and persecution and the balance between security and human rights in the European Union’s response.

ABOUT IPHIGENIA KANARA
Iphigenia Kanara currently serves as the Consul General of Greece in Boston. Her work consists of providing a wide array of consular services to the Greek-American community of New England while reaching out to public and private local stake holders in order to establish greater economic, political and cultural partnerships. She is also a fellow at Harvard University's Weatherhead Center for International Affairs. Previously, Mrs. Kanara headed the office of the Secretary General of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and served at the Permanent Representation of Greece to the European Union. Mrs. Kanara represented Greece in the preparation of both the European Union’s Council of Foreign Ministers and the European Council. She also participated in the negotiations for the adoption of the Lisbon Treaty and the establishment of the European External Action Service. She received her BA in International Affairs from the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki and MSc in European Politics and Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science. While at Harvard, Mrs. Kanara is pursuing research on the impact of the European External Action Service on the effectiveness of the European Union’s foreign policy.
