Benjamin Duffy-Howard is a senior at American University in Washington DC majoring in German Language and Area Studies with a minor in International Studies. In his Junior semester, Ben had the chance to study abroad in Berlin as war broke out in Ukraine. While this was an important experience for him in language learning it also was a chance to experience this moment in history firsthand. On campus, Ben is the Bass section leader in American University Chamber Singers and will be going on tour in Europe with them shortly after he graduates. Ben has a passion for learning languages, and other than German, he speaks Spanish and Portuguese and is currently learning Russian. He formally worked as a Development Intern at the Johns Hopkins affiliated think tank the American Institute for Contemporary German Studies during which time he had the opportunity to pursue his passion for international politics and wrote an original article on the German elections of 2021. He moved to Alstead, NH in 2019 and fell in love with life in New Hampshire. Ben enjoys being engaged with his local community by attending select board meetings and being involved with the Alstead Broadband Committee. Working with the World Affairs Council of New Hampshire Ben is excited to continue to be engaged with his statewide community and at the same time engage with international issues and educate others on them.
