There she became well-known for her equestrian skills as a long-distance rider and for her volunteer activities on behalf of environmental preservation\, sports and women's health. This brought her close to the Qatari people\, giving her insight into the com-munity that is rare for an expatriate.\n Qatar: Sand\, Sea\, and Sky gives an overview of Qatar's rich culture and his-tory and documents its journey into modernity. Though small in size\, Qatar's strategic location and natural gas wealth make it a rising economic and political power. The country's beauty is framed by the duality of being a desert on the sea.\n Breathtakingly illustrated by award-winning photographer Henry Dallal\, Mrs. Untermeyer's personal narrative provides a unique perspective of this moderate Muslim country and the way it attempts to become modern and engaged with the world without losing its heritage.\n\n \n
